On May 20th we will be celebrating Pentecost the birth of the Church. Pentecost is the remembrance of the Holy Spirit coming into the believers and the Church going from a small group of believers to a movement of thousands of people. It is important for Christians to keep in mind that the Holy Spirit came to the believers and empowered them to go out into the world and share the good news. We to have received that same Holy Spirit in our Baptisms, we to are empowered to go into the world and invite others to life in Christ. How do we do this? Well the first step is to know people who need it. If everyone we know is a Christian there is no one we know to invite. So we need to build relationships with people outside the Church. These need to be real and genuine relationships everyone knows the difference between someone who genuinely cares for them and someone who wants something from them. Next, we need to be willing to talk about our faith and what it means to us and how we think it effect it has in our lives. We don’t need to be able to answer every question they may have about Christianity. Sometimes the best thing we can say is I don’t know. We don’t need to argue with people. Arguments don’t really help people change their minds as much as it serves to frustrate and annoy others. The oldest form of Christian witness was the sharing of what Christ has done in the life of the believer. You know your relationship with Christ and you know what it means to you. Talk about that. Lastly we can invite them into relationship with Christ by inviting them to one of the primary places we experience Christ the Christian Community. I hope that all of you are willing to invite people to be part of our community. If you are looking for an opportunity please think about inviting someone to our Pentecost worship. Deb and I are planning something special that I hope you will all be a part of.
